hmmm, hard to say whether i would do that, if you buy the new macbook pro, i7 processor with 8GB of RAM and 64bit system, and 500GB HDD with 7200 RPM and 512 MB of Graphics Ram. Too fast... too powerful... paid around 3K bucks!

But in other side, i guess for browsing net with a big screen without Flash player support, iPad is ok! still i want to see Hulu.com and not to give money to iTune store for buying media/video contents from iTune.

Yeah it can be tricking, it's trying to get a good balance between accurate and over sensitive. Sometimes turning on from lock after putting down on a flat surface confuses it which can be annoying. But hey it usually takes only a second to correct it.

The problem with the first 'fix', is that I actually have to do it every time. I could solve this myself if Apple gave us a way to calibrate the auto-dim setting, instead of simply giving us a yes/no option.

The lock option for is a good work-around - agreed. I think, though, that Apple has a flaw in the algorithm. If I move from a somewhat not-flat position and then to a mostly-flat position, then I would expect that the previous orientation should stay the same.

The first two can be fixed easily. You can change brightness from Settings or hold your hand over the sensor to make it dark. Just flip the rotation lock before moving. I usually leave my lock on all the time.
Get more great tips from the app we wrote http://bit.ly/ipadsecrets

You are right in that it won't require UI redesign, but I'll bet there will be clamoring amongst users to have all apps updated to the higher res. Fortunately for developers, I'll guess that it won't require a lot of re-thinking of the UI, but will require new artwork. Again, Apple could do a lot make legacy apps look prettier, but I'm guessing that they are not going to.

With the iPhone HD being exactly double the resolution as the existing iPhone and the screen's physical size being the same, this means existing apps will not need to change at all and will still look exactly the same as they do now on the iPhone.

Sure, the iPhone apps look different on the iPad, but the physical dimensions of the screen, as well as the resolution are different, and even usage patterns are different, so it makes sense to make new UI designs for the iPad.

But the next gen iPhone will require zero changes to existing iPhone apps.

The app I'm working on is tentatively using a segmented control bar to switch between control modes. The options are:
Classic - Big - Voice - Pocket.
Big = for either when you can not concentrate on the screen, when the screen is jiggling, or if you fine motor control is what it used to to.
Pocket = Grope Control

Jason pointed out to me that the iPhone works through a thin fabric, like a light shirt, but not through something heavier, such as jeans.

"Blind Control" might still have political correctness issues, so maybe something like "Lights Out Control", "Lights Off Control", or "Dark Control"?

Blind or Pocket Control get the message across, but are not as catchy. Fumble isn't bad, either, but I'm casting my vote for Grope Control. "Be polite. Grope on the subway." may be left out of initial promo material, but not for long.

How long did people misinterpret 'gay' as 'happy' for after society began commonly using it to describe something else? Let's not kid ourselves, there are or will soon be enough touch-sensitive phones to redefine a term by it's mere usage within that context.

One consideration would be accidental input detection when rubbing and bumping into things whilst in grope detection mode, whether in your pocket or a handbag. Locking and unlocking would ideally not be necessary to perform after each grope.

Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Very cool. Maybe call it "fumble" control. Users would fumble around. "What are you doing?" "Ah, just fumbling around..."

I read somewhere that in Iraq, the hand gesture where you hold your arm up straight and open your and exposing your palm to someone means "come hear" (whereas obviously that means "stop" here.) I bet a lot of Iraqi civilians got killed from that misunderstanding. Point being, gestures aren't universally understood.

I found this: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/107731. Basically, my mail stays encrypted, and WordPress (blog server as of this writing) doesn't support encryption. Some related plug-ins might, or might not, solve the problem. In the mean-time, remote posting will have to wait.
